The list of services of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul is endless. No work of charity is foreign to the Society. To quote our patron, St. Vincent de Paul: "Charity is infinitely inventive."
St. Vincent de Paul of Redmond (SVDP) has been in the Central Oregon area for many years and was first part of a larger Conference. In 1979, Redmond and the other St. Vincent Groups incorporated into individual Conferences. Redmond SVDP is part of the Baker Diocese and the National St. Vincent de Paul Conference in St Louis, Missouri. There are St. Vincent de Paul's in 139 countries, 6 continents, over 50,000 conferences and 700,000 members.
St. Vincent de Paul (1581-1660) was the founder of the Congregation of the Mission, Daughters of Charity, Confraternities of Charity, and Ladies of Charity. A man of deep faith, keen intellect, and enormous creativity, he has become known as the "Apostle of Charity" and "Father of the Poor".
The St. Vincent de Paul Organization was founded by Frederic Ozanam in 1831 in Paris, France. His vision was to embrace the world in a network of charity.
Members of St. Vincent de Paul, or Vincentians, are men and women of all ages and races who strive to grow spiritually by offering person-to-person service to individuals in need. It is known that we are not alone, we are part of an international society of friends united by a spirit poverty, humilty, and sharing, which is nourished by prayer and reflection, mutually supportive gatherings, and adherence to a basic rule.
St. Vincent de Paul Redmond assists thousands of individuals each year in the Redmond community, including families and those that are homeless. Our goal is to provide direct assistance to those who are in greatest need and to provide education and life skills necessary in building a better life.
